Bogotá Small Business Expansion Draws Fresh Talent into Local Ventures
Growth in active companies and targeted city programs are shifting hiring patterns and skill needs across Bogotá's MSME sector.
How we reported this

Bogotá-Region counted 496,686 active companies as of November 30, 2025, after 81,372 new businesses opened in the first eleven months of that year for a 6 percent increase over 2024. The surge comes alongside the Mayor’s office rollout of Local Impulse and Microempresa Local 2.0, which delivered direct cash support of 3 million and 10 million pesos to individual grassroots operations under the wider Bogotá Local initiative that reached nearly 50 billion pesos in total commitments.
Programs Channel Support to New Operators
The Bogotá Chamber of Commerce has expanded its menu to more than 600 free services aimed at MSME strengthening and had assisted more than 150,800 people by November 2025. These services sit inside the same ecosystem that the International Chamber of Commerce chose when it placed its Latin American entrepreneurship center at INNOVALAB to brand the city as the region’s Entrepreneurship Capital. The measures coincide with a stock of 397,107 active MSMEs recorded in May 2023, of which 54.4 percent operated in services, 32 percent in commerce and 13.6 percent in industry.
Workforce and Skill Demands Adjust
More registered companies mean more owners seeking staff with sector-specific capabilities, particularly in services and commerce where the majority of MSMEs cluster. The Chamber’s training and advisory offerings help founders identify and onboard workers, while the city’s cash-injection programs lower barriers for individuals moving from salaried roles into their own ventures. Bogotá already ranks first in Colombia and 62nd globally for startups, a position that attracts both local graduates and experienced professionals looking for roles inside younger firms rather than traditional employers.
Operators who complete the Chamber’s workshops or receive program funding now routinely list hiring needs on local networks, creating visible demand for digital, sales and compliance skills. The pattern suggests continued pressure on talent pools as the number of formal businesses keeps rising and established MSMEs scale operations with the help of the available services.
