Bogotá Entrepreneurs Serving Local Needs Through MSME Support
Programs from the Mayor’s office and the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce back small businesses that address community demands in the capital.
How we reported this

Bogotá’s small and medium enterprises form the core of the local economy. They represent 99.1% of the business fabric, with 496,686 active companies in the Bogotá Region as of late 2025. Many of these ventures focus on meeting everyday needs in neighbourhoods across the city.
Recent Growth in Business Creation
Business creation in Bogotá increased by 6% between January and November 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, adding 4,630 new companies. This growth reflects ongoing efforts by entrepreneurs to serve residents through practical goods and services. The trend shows continued activity among those building operations that respond directly to local demand.
Mayor’s Office Programs for Grassroots Ventures
The Bogotá Mayor’s office launched 'Local Impulse' and 'Microempresa Local 2.0' to provide cash injections of 3 million and 10 million pesos respectively. These initiatives target small grassroots ventures that operate at the neighbourhood level. Funding helps entrepreneurs maintain or expand activities that supply goods and services to residents in their immediate areas.
Chamber of Commerce Services and International Recognition
The Bogotá Chamber of Commerce offers over 600 free services for MSME strengthening. It assisted 150,800 people in business strengthening as of November 2025. Bogotá was also selected as the Latin American hub for the International Chamber of Commerce entrepreneurship center, positioning the city as Latin America’s 'Entrepreneurship Capital'. These resources connect local operators with tools to sustain ventures that serve community requirements.
Entrepreneurs using these supports continue to address day-to-day needs through their operations. The combination of direct funding, training services and international designation provides a framework for ongoing activity. Those interested in the programs can contact the Bogotá Mayor’s office or the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce for details on eligibility and application steps.
