Bogotá Invests in Metro, Rail, and Wastewater Infrastructure Projects

Bogotá is constructing its First Metro Line, which reached 50 percent completion as of March 2025 with commercial operations scheduled for 2028 following a 530 million dollar World Bank loan approved in December 2025.

Metro and Regiotram Developments

The Second Line of the metro, a 3.8 billion dollar project featuring 11 stations along a 16 kilometre route with 15.1 kilometres underground, is scheduled for construction from 2024 to 2031. Construction of the Western Regiotram began on December 21, 2024, linking Facatativá, Madrid, Funza and Mosquera to Bogotá and cutting travel time to 45 minutes.

Road and Wastewater Projects

Four mega road projects target congestion at city entrances through expansion of Carrera Séptima, southern ALO, new Calle 13 and expansion of Autopista Norte. A new wastewater treatment plant valued at 1.5 billion dollars will treat 70 percent of Bogotá's wastewater and 100 percent of Soacha's wastewater under a 26-year concession contract.
