Officials Highlight Infrastructure Milestones Across Bogotá Mobility Network

Bogotá officials are pointing to measurable progress on multiple transport projects that rely on coordinated funding and construction schedules.

Metro Line 1 Status

Metro Line 1 stands at 50 percent completion as of March 2025, according to project records. The 23.9 km line with 16 stations remains on track for opening in 2028. World Bank financing of US$530 million supports the current intensive phase of work.

Road and Station Projects

Four large-scale road upgrades are listed among the active works: expansion of Carrera Séptima, southern ALO, the new Calle 13 and Autopista Norte expansion. A privately financed Bogotá Central Station valued at $255 million is designed to link three TransMilenio lines and add 234,000 m² of commercial and residential space.

Additional Mobility Investments

By January 2025, 54.56 percent of nearly $58.7 billion allocated to infrastructure projects had reached contract stage. The Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano is overseeing 113 mobility projects. Three planned TransMiCable extensions target San Cristóbal, Potosí and Reencuentro-Monserrate. Two commuter rail lines, Western and Northern, are also listed in current plans.

Further Lines and Systems

The Second Metro Line carries a planned investment of USD 3.8 billion for a 16-kilometer route, 15.1 km of it underground, with 11 stations and service targeted from 2031. The Western Regiotram began construction on December 21, 2023, linking Facatativá, Madrid, Funza and Mosquera to central Bogotá with a 45-minute travel time. A separate USD 1.5 billion wastewater treatment plant is advancing to handle 70 percent of Bogotá’s waste water and 100 percent of Soacha’s flows.
