Bogotá Launches Cybersecurity Programs to Protect Residents Online
New programs from the Mayor’s Office, Chamber of Commerce and district agencies give residents practical tools to handle passwords, phishing and data protection in routine online activity.
How we reported this
Bogotá’s Mayor’s Office signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kaspersky to expand digital literacy initiatives, share threat intelligence and protect critical infrastructure. The agreement directly supports resident-level training on everyday online risks.
Cybercrime complaints in Colombia rose 25 percent between 2020 and 2021, prompting district agencies to roll out concrete measures that reach small business owners, public employees and ordinary internet users. These steps move cybersecurity from abstract policy into daily decisions about email, cloud accounts and device use.
Chamber of Commerce Tools Reach Local SMEs
The Bogotá Chamber of Commerce released the free Guía de Pymes Ciberseguras and a permanent online cybersecurity readiness program. The program covers phishing prevention, password authentication and cloud security for small and medium enterprises that serve residents across the city. Business owners who complete the modules change how they store customer data and verify messages, altering routine transactions at markets, clinics and service shops.
District Response Team and Training Targets
Bogotá’s District is implementing the CSIRT Distrital to monitor and manage cyber incidents while aiming for 100 percent training of digital security officials by year end. The District’s TIC Office already held the second Cibercrisis workshop for roughly 100 district cybersecurity collaborators. These steps strengthen incident handling that affects public services residents rely on, from permit systems to utility billing portals.
Bogotá will host the Cybersecurity as a Trust Driver in Telecommunications symposium on August 14 at Hotel Casa Dann Carlton. The event brings public and private leaders together to discuss digital risks that appear in residents’ daily communications and financial apps.
Residents can access the Chamber of Commerce online program directly or request the guide through district channels to apply the same practices at home and at work. The CSIRT Distrital framework provides a clear route for reporting incidents once training reaches full coverage.
