Kaspersky Partners With Bogotá to Boost City Cybersecurity and Digital Literacy

Bogotá’s Mayor’s Office and Kaspersky have entered a formal agreement to build stronger defenses against cyber threats through citizen-focused digital literacy efforts, staff training programs, and shared intelligence on attacks.
The capital has pushed ahead with digitizing government services and widening internet access, which leaves essential systems and residents more exposed to online risks that cross borders. Officials see the need for coordinated steps that combine local institutions with outside technical support to keep pace with shifting threats.
Bogotá already runs the CSIRT Distrital to monitor and respond to incidents affecting public entities, while Decreto 472 of 2024 sets the framework for digital security governance across district operations. The new agreement adds layers of preparation on top of these existing structures.
Training and awareness programs take shape
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, Kaspersky will deliver cybersecurity courses for Capital District staff and ICT teams in both online and in-person formats. Separate initiatives will draw on the company’s research into daily threats to create materials that help ordinary residents recognize and avoid common attacks. The two sides will also exchange details on incidents hitting the city and apply expertise to protect critical infrastructure serving the district and potentially wider areas of Colombia.
The signing took place at Bogotá Alcaldía on May 15 and marks the company’s first such pact inside the country, where its Northern Latin America hub opened the previous year.
Next steps include August symposium
City leaders plan to build on the agreement with the Simposium 'Cybersecurity as a Driver of Trust in Telecommunications' scheduled for August 14, which will gather public and private sector participants to discuss practical steps for raising awareness. Residents can follow updates through district channels on how to access the emerging literacy resources once they roll out. The focus remains on turning shared technical knowledge into everyday habits that reduce exposure for families and businesses alike.
