Local Tour Companies Expand Across Bogotá's Historic Neighborhoods

Bookings for neighborhood walking tours in Bogotá rose 28 percent in the first ten days of July compared with the same period last year, according to records kept by the city tourism office.

The increase follows a quiet June when many locals stayed close to home after regional travel advisories, pushing operators to add morning and evening slots on routes that stay inside the capital. Tour companies report that participants now include more Bogotá residents than foreign visitors, a shift from patterns seen in 2024.

Routes through La Candelaria and Chapinero

One established operator runs daily walks that begin at the entrance to the Museo del Oro on Calle 16 and move through the narrow streets of La Candelaria, stopping at the restored colonial houses along Carrera 4. A second company offers afternoon sessions in Chapinero that start at the corner of Calle 63 and Carrera 7, covering the restored facades of early twentieth-century apartment blocks and ending at a small bakery on Calle 62. Both programs limit groups to twelve people and require advance registration through their websites.

City data released last week showed that 4,800 people completed one of these paid local tours during June, with average group sizes holding steady at nine participants. Prices listed on the operators’ sites range from 45,000 to 65,000 Colombian pesos per person, with the higher rate covering a light meal at the final stop.

Practical steps for joining a tour

Anyone planning to book should check availability on the operator websites at least three days ahead, because slots on weekends fill first. Participants are advised to wear comfortable shoes and carry identification, since some routes pass through restricted vehicle zones near Plaza de Bolívar. Schedules for the coming week are already posted, and new dates for August are expected to open on July 15.
