Bogotá Sleep Clinics Expand Services as Demand for Assessments Surges
Bogotá residents can access overnight polysomnography at specialized centers as demand for sleep assessments rises in the capital.
How we reported this
Two Bogotá clinics have added evening slots for polysomnography tests this month to handle a surge in referrals from primary care physicians in Chapinero and Usaquén.
High altitude combined with irregular work schedules in the city has pushed more adults to seek clinical evaluation for fragmented sleep, according to staff at local centers. Residents report waking frequently at night, a pattern that coincides with increased wellness center memberships across northern neighborhoods.
Named centers on specific routes
The Sleep Disorders Laboratory at Hospital Universitario San Ignacio on Carrera 7 near Calle 40 offers weekday studies that begin at 9 p.m. and include EEG, airflow and oxygen monitoring. A few blocks east, the private Centro de Sueño y Respiración on Calle 93 between Carreras 11 and 12 runs weekend appointments for patients referred by pulmonologists in the Zona T area. Both facilities accept appointments through their central switchboards and require a recent medical summary from a Bogotá general practitioner.
Prices for a full-night study start at 520,000 Colombian pesos at San Ignacio and reach 750,000 pesos at the Calle 93 center when oximetry and CPAP titration are included, figures listed on their July 2026 fee sheets. A 2025 report from the Colombian Association of Sleep Medicine found that 38 percent of adults in Bogotá sleep fewer than six hours on weeknights, with the highest rates recorded in the northern localities.
Next steps for residents
Anyone considering a study should first visit their neighborhood médico general for a referral form that lists current medications and symptoms. Clinics advise arriving 30 minutes early, wearing loose clothing and avoiding caffeine after 2 p.m. on the test day. Follow-up consultations to review results typically occur within 10 days at the same location where the recording took place.
